2025 SARW – RS Aero Midwinter Championship
Sailing for the very first time in the 2025 SARW, we are pleased to announce a new class of boat: the RS Areo. The RS Aero Midwinter Championship is open to Sailors of ALL ages – from Youth to Adult. The Regatta will sail in the Bay on Saturday & Sunday, March 22nd & 23rd 2025. As with the 420 Events, spectators can watch the RS Aero Sailing Events from the waterfront viewing area on the St Augustine Bayfront.

RS Aero Midwinter Championship will be sailing in the shadows of historic structures like St. Augustine’s Castillo de San Marcos and the beautiful Bridge of Lions. Sailors of ALL ages will compete in a protected, challenging saltwater venue in the Downtown Bayfront. Tourists and Spectators can cheer them on from the waterfront viewing area. An Expert Race Committee with lots of Safety Boats will ensure safe, fair competition. All RS Aero Sailors will check in at the St. Augustine Yacht Club on Saturday morning. Participants will also be treated to a Great Awards Dinner at the St Augustine Yacht Club Sunday after the regatta.

RS Aero Midwinter Championship Fee: $106.50 (including taxes). Registrations after February 23 will be $133.13 per boat including tax.

Sailors of ALL ages can compete in the 2025 SARW RS Aero Midwinter Championship in one of four RS Aero Classes: RS Aero 5, 6, 7 & 9. Sailors will navigate a Downtown course in the Bayfront. There is a maximum 20 boat limit for the combined classes.

What is an RS Aero?

The RS Aero is a British sailing dinghy that was designed as a one-design racer and first built in 2014. The design is marketed and distributed by RS Sailing of Romsey, United Kingdom.

The RS Aero is a single-handed recreational sailboat, built predominantly of fiberglass. It has a cat rig, a raked stem, a vertical transom, a transom-hung rudder controlled by a tiller with a hiking stick extension and a retractable daggerboard. It displaces 66 lb (30 kg).

The boat was also named the Sailing World Boat Of The Year in 2015, as Best One-Design. The magazine described it as “a stunning singlehander that is more than comparable to the Laser.” It was cited for its “construction quality, lightweight hull, versatile rig with multiple combinations, technical details, and price”.
